A member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) who is aspiring to represent Ikom/Boki federal constituency come 2027, Mr. Pius Abang has claimed that “some appointees in the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state are working to frustrate his ambition.”
Abang, who made the claim on Wednesday in Çalabar said the issue bothers on a communal clash between Iso-Bendeghe and neighbouring communities of Nsadop, Katabang and Njua.
The aspirant , who fingered some persons responsible for his ordeal alleged that “some persons in government are being used to intimidate me thereby heating up the polity the area.”
He explained further: “I have no hand in the communal crisis that affected Iso-Bendeghe and its neighbours, and it is mischievous for any government appointee to link me to it.”
He added: “Our people deserve development, not division and intimidation sponsored through appointees.”
According to him, those accusing him of having a hand in the communal crises are aware of his popularity among the people and are doing everything to soil his reputation by smearing his name.
However, the Publicity Secretary of the APC in Cross River State, Mr. Emmanuel Inyang who reacted to the claim, dismissed the allegation, saying the PDP candidate was “crying wolf and feeling jittery because the party (PDP) isn’t on ground.”
He added: “The PDP reps candidate is jittery because the party (PDP) is not on ground. We would sweep them out of the contest. They are just afraid of failure,”
“With our broom, we will sweep them out. Can the candidate withstand our own candidate who is fully in charge of the constituency? The answer is No!”
