President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio, has said the City Boy Movement is poised to ensure “maximum victory” for the re-election of President Bola Tinubu in 2027.
Akpabio stated this on Wednesday while receiving a delegation of the group led by its Director-General, Francis Shoga, on a courtesy visit to his office.
He described the movement as a growing political force, saying its presence would guarantee that the President has agents in every polling unit across the country.
“The City Boy Movement is like a wind blowing across the nation. You may not see it but you can feel it. Every political party in Nigeria is already feeling the impact,” he said.
“If this Movement had existed in the last election, many of our votes that were not counted in many polling units would have been counted. Never again shall we have a situation where Mr President will not have an agent in any polling unit,” Akpabio added.
He urged members to remain focused despite anticipated criticisms after the 2027 election.
“While you are going round the country mobilising and sensitising voters, other political parties are sleeping. But when the victory of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is announced, you will hear people saying it is rigged. Ignore all those things and remain focused,” he said.
Akpabio, who is Grand Patron of the Movement, also advised Nigerian youths to avoid cultism and drug abuse.
“It is a tragedy when a potentially achieving young man or woman, out of a flaw in his or her character, becomes a failure. You are privileged to chart the path of the next administration. It will be a tragedy for any of you to derail,” he said.
He assured the group of the support of the Senate, adding: “We are with you 100 percent.”
Earlier, Shoga said the visit was to strengthen collaboration between the National Assembly and the Movement.
“We seek your continued guidance and support as we expand our programmes across the country, deepen civic engagement among young Nigerians and contribute meaningfully to national development,” he said.
