Gov Sule Okays Construction of 3-storey classrooms, massive school renovation

Nasarawa State Governor, Abdillahi Sule, has approved the renovation of massive school infrastructure, including construction of new 3-storey classrooms blocks to address infrastructure gaps in the in primary and secondary school levels of education across the state.

The Senior Special Assistant (SSA) to the governor on Public Affairs, Peter Ahemba stated this at a bimonthly press conference on Monday in Lafia.

He disclosed that the governor had asince paid the state’s share of counterpart fund to the Universal Basic Education Commission (INEC), saying the state Universal Basic Education Board has already assessed the money for the projects.

According to him, under the new plan, 3-storey classroom buildings would be constructed in selected public secondary schools in the three senatorial districts of the state to improve school infrastructure.

The Senior Special Àssiatant disclosed that the governor also approved large-scale renovation and rehabilitation of dilapidated primary and secondary schools across the 13 Local Government Areas of the state.

Ahemba said that the current scope of work include renovation, fencing, roofing, flooring, windows, doors, toilets, water supply, and supply of furniture to improve teaching and learning at that levels of education in the state.

He said “This administration is committed to providing a conducive environment for teaching and learning and the projects are part of the administration’s agenda to reposition education in the state,”

The SSA explained that the priority would given to rural areas worse hit by infrastructural deficit to provide conducive learning environment in rural areas.

Ahemba disclosed that only 600 out the 1000 applicants who applied for the recently advertised teaching jobs in primary schools passed recently conducted written examination, saying screening exercises were already concluded by the firm handling the exercise.

“The recruitment firm has submitted the report of the outcome to the state universal basic education board and the board is currently studying it for onward action,” Ahemba added.

The SSA further disclosed that the governor has approved the construction of five mini stadia in the three senatorial districts of the state to promote grassroots sports and youth engagement in the state.

Ahemba explained that the mini stadium would be constructed in Toto, Kokona, Keffi, Akwanga and Doma Local Government Areas in the state.
