Akara Seller’s Success Shows Power of Women Entrepreneurship – Darazo

A prominent supporter of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Khamis Musa Darazo, has highlighted the success story of an Abuja-based akara seller as evidence of the economic potential of women entrepreneurs, calling for greater investment in women-owned businesses.

Darazo said the woman, identified as Asabe, built houses from the proceeds of selling akara and akamu, describing her achievement as proof that determination, discipline and hard work can transform small businesses into sustainable sources of wealth.

He urged governments, corporate organisations and development partners to provide women entrepreneurs with easier access to affordable financing, vocational training and business mentorship to enable them expand their enterprises.

According to him, women remain critical drivers of Nigeria’s economy despite facing financial and structural challenges that limit the growth of their businesses.

Darazo also commended the First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, for promoting programmes aimed at empowering women, saying such initiatives would help reduce poverty, create jobs and strengthen families.

He stressed that supporting women economically would improve household incomes, boost children’s education and contribute to national economic development.

The Tinubu loyalist further appealed to Nigerians, particularly young people, to embrace entrepreneurship and uphold the dignity of honest labour, noting that business success depends more on resilience and commitment than on the size of start-up capital.

This angle places the human-interest story at the centre while naturally introducing Darazo’s broader call for women’s economic empowerment.
