Kebbi State Governor, Comrade Nasir Idris, has inaugurated the newly constituted Governing Council of the Abdullahi Fodio University of Science and Technology, AFUSTA, Aliero.
In a remark, Governor Idris said the action became necessary to restore stability and reposition the university by carefully selecting the members, as well as the Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the Governing Council, Professor Muhammad Abubakar Kaoje, for these appointments.
Governor Idris described AFUSTA as the only state-owned pioneer university and pledged government support for its development.
He noted that Professor Kaoje, who was the pioneer Vice Chancellor of the institution, brings deep institutional knowledge to the assignment and urged the new Council to work closely with the Acting Vice Chancellor, Professor Mungadi, and his management team.
Responding on behalf of the Council, the newly appointed Pro-Chancellor and Chairman, Professor Muhammad Abubakar Kaoje, expressed gratitude to the Governor and pledged to deliver on their mandate.
Professor Kaoje also assured the Governor of the Council’s commitment to regular engagement.
Presenting the Council members to the Governor, the Secretary to the State Government, Alhaji Yakubu Bala Tafida, said the composition reflects broad stakeholder representation.
The members are drawn from different areas of professionalism and are also stakeholders in university affairs.
The inauguration which took place at government house Birnin Kebbi, followed a major shake-up at the institution, which resulted the removal of the Vice Chancellor, two Deputy Vice Chancellors, other members of management, and the dissolution of the previous Governing Council and its Chairman.
