Bauchi State Police Command has arrested three suspects over the alleged killing of a 27-year-old man during a clash at a naming ceremony in Kirfi Local Government Area of the state.
The suspects, identified as Kano Alhaji Malam, 18, Ali Alhaji Malam, 17, and Shehu Alhaji Malam, 16, were arrested in connection with the death of Sani Abacha Alhaji Jabbi of Dosi Hamlet.
Police spokesman, SP Nafiu Habib, said the incident occurred on June 25 during a naming ceremony at Dosi Hamlet, Bara Village, when a misunderstanding between youths from Dosi Hamlet and neighbouring Tudun Sullubawa Hamlet turned violent.
According to him, the deceased was allegedly attacked with cutlasses and sustained severe injuries before he was rushed to the Federal Medical Centre, Gombe, where he later died while receiving treatment.
He said police operatives visited the scene, documented evidence and subsequently tracked down and arrested the three suspects.
Habib said the deceased had since been buried according to Islamic rites.
He added that the case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for detailed investigation and prosecution.
Reacting to the incident, the Commissioner of Police, CP Sani-Omolori Aliyu, condemned the killing and urged residents to resolve disputes peacefully instead of resorting to violence.
