Sanwo-Olu flags off Renewed Hope school feeding programme in Badagry

Lagos State Governor, Mr Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has flagged off the Adopt-A-School PBAT Feeds – Snacks for Thought Initiative under the Renewed Hope National Home-Grown School Feeding Programme in Badagry.

The programme, held at St. Thomas Anglican Nursery and Primary School, Badagry.

Sanwo-Olu said said that the programme aimed at improving child nutrition, boosting school enrolment, attendance, enhancing classroom concentration, and strengthening learning outcomes in public primary schools across the state.

Sanwo-Olu, represented by the Commissioner for Tertiary Education, Mr Tolani Sule, described the initiative as a partnership for the future of Lagos State.

According to him, the future of every society is shaped not only by what it builds today, but by how well it nourishes the children who will build tomorrow.

He noted that the programme goes beyond providing meals to pupils, describing it as a strategic investment in education, livelihoods and sustainable economic development.

The governor said the initiative would create opportunities for farmers, food vendors and small businesses by strengthening local food value chains while ensuring that every child is well nourished and better prepared to learn, grow and succeed.

Sanwo-Olu also unveiled the Adopt-A-School Snacks for Thought Dashboard, an innovative digital platform designed to promote transparency, accountability and measurable impact.

He said that this would enable corporate organisations, financial institutions, alumni associations, faith-based organisations, philanthropists and individuals to adopt schools, monitor interventions and witness firsthand the impact of their support.

Sanwo-Olu called on stakeholders to embrace the initiative, saying, “What we are demonstrating today is that when government and society work hand in hand, every child has a greater opportunity to succeed”.

He urged organisations and well-meaning Lagosians to answer the call to adopt public schools, adding that, “Adopt a school. Feed a child. And shape the future of Lagos State.

Also speaking, Mr Babatunde Hunpe, the Chairman, Badagry Local Government, Hon. Babatunde Hunpe described the programme as a timely intervention that aligns with the Council’s commitment to educational development and child welfare.

Hunpe who was represented by the Council Manager, Mrs Senami Avoseh-Akwe said “”A hungry child cannot learn effectively.

“This initiative is an investment in the future of our children and our society.

“Beyond improving nutrition and educational outcomes, it will also create opportunities for local farmers, food vendors and small businesses, thereby strengthening our local economy.

“Badagry Local Government will continue to partner with governments and development partners on programmes that uplift our people and secure a brighter future for every child.”

Hunpe commended President Bola Tinubu, Governor Sanwo-Olu, the Renewed Hope National Home-Grown School Feeding Programme, the Lagos State Government and all development partners for bringing the initiative to the grassroots.

The chairman expressed confidence that the programme would significantly improve learning outcomes while supporting local enterprise and community development.

In her remarks, Mrs Aderemi Adebowale, the National Programme Manager of the Renewed Hope National Home-Grown School Feeding Programme, , described the initiative as a strategic investment in the future of Nigerian children.

Adebowale who was represented by Mrs Idowu Bukola noted that the initiative was designed to combat classroom hunger, improve child nutrition, boost school enrolment and retention, enhance learning outcomes.

She said that it would also stimulate local economies by supporting farmers and other players in the agricultural value chain.
