Ahead of the 2027 general elections, a member of the Federal Character Commission (FCC) representing Ogun State, Hon. Kayode Oladele, has predicted the imminent collapse of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), declaring that the once-dominant political party has become a shadow of its former self and is gradually heading towards extinction.
In a statement issued in Abuja, Oladele said the deepening internal crisis, mass defections, and leadership disputes rocking the PDP across the country have exposed the party’s inability to reinvent itself or present a credible alternative to Nigerians.
He argued that the PDP has completely lost the confidence of the electorate after years of internal wrangling, lack of direction, and what he described as the party’s failure to learn from its past mistakes.
According to the former lawmaker, “The PDP is witnessing its final political chapter. What Nigerians are seeing today is the gradual collapse of a party that once enjoyed enormous goodwill but squandered the opportunity to provide purposeful leadership.
“It is now consumed by internal conflicts, endless litigation, and bitter divisions. The signs are unmistakable. The party is heading towards extinction.”
Oladele noted that the increasing wave of defections by influential politicians to the All Progressives Congress (APC) was evidence that even members of the opposition no longer had confidence in the future of the PDP.
He maintained that the APC has continued to consolidate its position as Nigeria’s most formidable political platform through effective leadership and people-oriented policies at both the federal and state levels.
He urged Nigerians to continue supporting the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, saying the ongoing economic reforms, though difficult, were necessary to lay the foundation for sustainable growth, national prosperity, and long-term stability.
Turning to Ogun State, Oladele said the PDP has become increasingly irrelevant and no longer commands the confidence of the electorate.
He argued that the party’s dwindling fortunes, coupled with its lingering internal crisis, have made it an unattractive platform for anyone genuinely interested in the progress of the state.
He said the emergence of the APC governorship candidate, Senator Solomon Olamilekan Adeola, popularly known as Yayi, has further strengthened the party’s prospects ahead of the 2027 governorship election.
According to him, Senator Adeola has distinguished himself through impactful constituency projects, unprecedented empowerment programmes, and sustained grassroots engagement across Ogun State.
“Senator Yayi has demonstrated uncommon commitment to the welfare of the people through projects and empowerment initiatives that are unmatched in the political history of Ogun State.
“His popularity continues to grow because the people can see and feel the impact of his representation.
“The good people of Ogun State cannot take the risk of voting for a party whose days are numbered and whose future is highly unpredictable.
Supporting the PDP is like building a house without a foundation. Ogun State deserves stability, continuity, and a government driven by competence, vision, and proven leadership rather than a party struggling for political survival,” he said.
Oladele further urged residents of Ogun State to rally behind Senator Adeola and support the second-term bid of President Tinubu in 2027, stressing that the South-West should reward the President’s bold economic reforms and commitment to national development with overwhelming electoral support.
“The APC remains the only political party with the vision, leadership, and nationwide structure capable of sustaining Nigeria’s progress.
“I have no doubt that the party will record resounding victories in the 2027 general elections.
“As for the PDP, unless something extraordinary happens, its gradual decline will soon culminate in total political collapse. Nigerians have moved on, and Ogun State has already made its choice,” Oladele stated.
