Ogun State Police Command has arrested three suspects in connection with the gruesome murder of a prominent resident, Madam Olakitan Oyesiku, and her security guard, Pelumi Adetayo, following what police described as a painstaking investigation involving forensic analysis, intelligence gathering, and technical tracking.
Commissioner of Police, CP Bode Ojajuni, disclosed the breakthrough during a press briefing at the Command Headquarters, Eleweran, Abeokuta, on Thursday.
According to the police chief, the incident was reported to the Owode-Egba Police Station on June 21, 2026, after suspicious circumstances were observed at the victim’s residence. Detectives who responded to the scene discovered the lifeless body of the security guard inside the security post, while Madam Oyesiku was found dead in a pool of blood in the living room of her residence.
Ojajuni said preliminary findings revealed that the deceased’s Lexus RX 330 SUV was missing from the premises, prompting investigators to suspect a robbery-murder operation.
The Commissioner explained that the Command immediately launched an intensive investigation, combining intelligence gathering and technical tracking to identify those responsible and recover the stolen vehicle.
He revealed that operatives successfully traced and recovered the missing Lexus RX 330 on June 22 at the Onikolobo area of Ogun State. Although the vehicle’s registration plates had been removed and the ignition key taken away, detectives found the registration plate hidden beneath one of the seats, enabling them to confirm ownership.
A major breakthrough in the investigation came through the forensic examination of a handwritten note allegedly left behind by the perpetrators at the crime scene.
“The note was subjected to forensic analysis, which generated critical leads that significantly assisted detectives in identifying and tracing the suspects,” Ojajuni said.
Acting on the intelligence gathered, detectives arrested the principal suspect, Sodeinde Olajuwon Philip, 22, on June 24 at a construction site in Ibara GRA, Abeokuta, where he was working as a labourer.
Subsequent operations led to the arrest of two alleged accomplices, Sakirudeen Abdulraheem Ayoola, 27, a security guard, and Sobu Obafunsho, 36, a bricklayer.
The police boss said the arrests brought into custody all identified suspects linked to the criminal conspiracy.
During interrogation, Philip allegedly confessed to participating in the killing and admitted recruiting the two other suspects for the operation.
According to Ojajuni, the suspect told investigators that he planned the attack because of grievances he held against Madam Oyesiku during the period he worked as a security guard in her employment. “The suspect stated that the murder was intended to teach her a lesson,” the Commissioner said.
Police investigations revealed that the suspects carried out the attack on June 20, 2026. They allegedly overpowered the security guard, used him to gain access into the residence, attacked Madam Oyesiku and later killed the guard before fleeing with the victim’s vehicle.
Further searches conducted at locations linked to the suspects led to the recovery of several exhibits, including a broken hammer, a cutlass, a plank and a black pen believed to be connected to the crime.
While noting that the suspects had made useful statements and substantial evidence had been recovered, Ojajuni stressed that all those arrested remained entitled to due process under the law.
He added that investigations were continuing to consolidate evidence and ensure diligent prosecution of everyone connected with the crime.
“The Ogun State Police Command remains committed to ensuring that justice is served and that all persons connected with this heinous crime are brought to book,” he stated.
The Commissioner assured residents that the Command would continue to deploy intelligence-led policing and modern investigative techniques to combat violent crimes across the state.
