In an effort to cushion the effects of economic hardship in Adamawa State, the North East Development Commission (NEDC) has distributed food items and other relief materials to vulnerable households, orphanage homes in some communities.
Barrister Khalifa Lawal who is the Adamawa State Coordinator of the Commission, disclosed this during the distribution exercise conducted in orphanage homes in Yola South Local Government Area, Sangere Community, and through a house-to-house outreach in Rumde Community of Yola North Local Government Area.
Barrister Lawal said the intervention is part of the Commission’s commitment to supporting vulnerable groups and reducing the impact of prevailing economic challenges on households across the state.
He explained that the Commission adopted a door-to-door distribution approach to ensure that relief materials reach the intended beneficiaries directly while also providing an opportunity to engage residents and assess their immediate needs.
According to him, the strategy enhances transparency and effectiveness in the distribution process, ensuring that assistance gets to those who need it most.
Speaking during the exercise at an orphanage home in Sangere, Barrister Lawal expressed optimism that the intervention would improve the welfare of the children and provide much-needed support to their caregivers.
Beneficiaries who received the items commended the NEDC for the timely gesture, describing it as a welcome relief amid the prevailing economic difficulties, noted that the support would go a long way in improving their living conditions and meeting basic household needs.
The Commission also urged individuals, corporate bodies, and philanthropic organizations to complement government efforts by extending support to vulnerable members of society and promoting the welfare of the less privileged.
The relief distribution is part of NEDC’s broader mandate of improving the living conditions of communities across the North-East region through targeted humanitarian and development interventions.
