Oshiomhole May Face Probe In Senate Over Signature Forgery Allegation

There are indications that the Edo North Senator, Adams Oshiomhole, may soon face investigation in the Senate over his allegation that the names of at least three Senators were improperly included on the Senate Committee report that recommended the six-month suspension of Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan of Kogi Central.

Oshiomhole made the allegation during an interview on Africa Independent Television (AIT) while reacting to comments by Senate Leader Opeyemi Bamidele, who described Akpoti-Uduaghan’s suspension as one of the lowest moments of the 10th Senate.

He posited that some Senators met him privately and related how their names were included in the report of the Senate Committee on Ethics, Privileges and Public Petitions, which investigated Akpoti-Uduaghan over allegation of violation of sections of the Senate Standing Orders.

According to him, some lawmakers privately informed him that their names were included in the Committee report even though they did not sign their signatures to approve the report.

Oshiomhoke specifically mentioned Senator Ireti Kingibe, who represents the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), as one of those who reportedly kicked against the inclusion of her name among the signatories.

“The Committee holds a hearing; members are expected to sign the report to endorse it. If you don’t agree, you can abstain. But some said they did. People like Senator Ireti Kingibe. She told me, ‘But I didn’t sign that report. Yet my name was published,’” he said.

He argued that signing a Committee report is tantamount to endorsing its recommendations, questioning how the names of lawmakers who allegedly declined to sign the document appeared on it.

However, reacting to Oshiomhole’s allegation, the Senate Spokesperson and Chairman, Senate Committee on Media, Yemi Adaramodu, said that the Senate would review the matter, to authenticate the validity or otherwise of the allegation.

Adaramodu made the statement in an interview with The Cable on Tuesday, saying: “The Senate will take a cursory look at either extraneous, spontaneous or intentional comments from any senator appropriately.”

He said: “We are going to review any statements made by him (Oshiomhole). The Senate will take a cursory look at either extraneous, spontaneous or intentional comments from any Senator appropriately. We are going to look into it. We will take a stand and everyone will know where we stand. But we can say no Senator has reported that his or her signature was forged during the Natasha matter.

“It was debated on the floor of the Senate openly at the plenary in the full glare of every Nigerian and even the international audience, and so nothing to hide. All Nigerians knew where we stood then on the issue of Natasha… that she ran foul of the Senate’s Orders. And we are orderly because we are bounded by orders of the Senate.”

Commenting on the independence of the Senators, he said: “Nobody will say that he or she was coerced or somebody’s signature was forged; that has never happened in the senate and it cannot happen. It has never happened.

“Senators are independent-minded people. We are mature men and women. And if you have any infraction against anybody, that person can, without any advocate from anywhere, that person will show it. So there’s nothing like that. I’m just hearing it for the first time. That’s very strange.”

Meanwhile, sensing the imminent probe of his utterances, Oshiomhole has denied allegations that he accused Senate officials of forging lawmakers’ signatures during the process that led to the suspension of Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan.

In a statement personally signed and forwarded to journalists late Tuesday night, the former Edo governor said comments he made on AIT’s _Politics Today_ on Monday, June 15, 2026, were misrepresented.

“My attention has been drawn to an obvious misrepresentation of the statement I made during my interview on AIT’s Politics Today, broadcast on Monday, June 15, 2026,” Oshiomhole said.

“The insinuation that I said senators’ signatures were forged is a complete misrepresentation of what I actually said. I agree absolutely with the spokesperson of the Senate, Distinguished Senator Yemi Adaramodu, that no senator’s signature was forged in Natasha Akpoti’s suspension. This is because no senator complained to me that his or her signature was forged,” he said.

“The only comment I made is that one senator, who is a member of the committee, ‘claimed’ that the attendance signatures of some senators were attached to the final report. Any suggestion to the effect that I alleged that any senator’s signature was forged is completely untrue and should be disregarded,” he added.

Oshiomhole said he was responding to an interviewer’s claim that Senate Leader Opeyemi Bamidele described the controversy as the “lowest point” of the 10th Senate.

“I replied that ‘if indeed the Senate Leader said so, yes, it should be taken seriously because he is not given to frivolities. As far as I am concerned, the issue of the suspension of Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan has been put to rest, and the Senate has since moved on,” he stated.

“Once again, I emphasise that no Senator told me that his or her signature was forged. Finally, I regret if my comments may have caused embarrassment to any Senator or to the 10th Senate as an institution,” he said.
