…Declare support for Abiola, Enimakure
Some stakeholders in the All Progressives Congress (APC) have commended the leadership of the party in the state for not yielding to those they described as ‘powerful forces’ in Agege local government over the recently held party primaries.
The stakeholders also urged the party to sanction erring members, especially from Agege, who have become bent on dragging APC’s image over the recently conducted primary election.
Supporters of Ganiyu Kola Egunjobi and Azeez Yusuf, aspirants who lost in the exercise, had protested to the APC secretariat on Tuesday expressing disappointment in the party.
Chanting songs against chieftains of the party in the state, they demanded a reversal of the list of winners in the primaries.
Speaking at a press conference, a member of the party stakeholders in Agege, Adegbenro Shodijo, said the activities of the protesters and their sponsors have become embarrassing to Agege.
On behalf of the stakeholders, Shodijo said “We call on the leadership of the party to urgently investigate the disturbing activities of certain individuals who allegedly engaged in the circulation of forged, manipulated, and coerced results in a desperate attempt to subvert the democratic process.
“More disturbing was the reckless and disrespectful manner in which some of these individuals openly insulted, disparaged, and attacked highly respected state party leaders simply because the outcome did not favour their personal ambitions.
“We therefore urge the appropriate organs of the party to thoroughly investigate these actions and ensure that any member found culpable is sanctioned in accordance with the constitution of the APC.
“Discipline remains the foundation of every successful political organisation, and the party must not allow the actions of a few individuals to undermine its credibility and internal cohesion,” the stakeholders said.
Shodijo and the concerned party leaders reiterated their support for the candidacy of Oluwagbenga Abiola and Sule Enimakure for the State House of Assembly seats for Agege Constituency I and II respectively ahead of the 2027 election.
“The APC leadership deserves special commendation for refusing to bow to pressure from a few powerful forces within Agege who have over time attempted to create the impression that they solely own, control, and determine the destiny of the party structure.
“Abiola’s emergence is not merely a political victory; it is the triumph of the grassroots over intimidation, the victory of loyalty over entitlement, and the affirmation that the voice of the people remains the strongest force in any democratic process.
“His relationship with the youth, women, elders, artisans, market men and women, religious bodies, community associations, and party faithful has been built on service, sacrifice, consistency, and genuine love for the people.
“His emergence therefore comes as no surprise to those who understand the political reality of Agege today. The people spoke clearly, the party listened, and justice prevailed.
“Together with Sule Enimakure, we are confident that the APC has fielded candidates capable of not only winning convincingly at the polls but also providing effective, responsive, and people-oriented representation,” they said.
