Governor Bala Mohammed of Bauchi State has called for peace and reconciliation between the Lanzai and Dosho communities of Darazo Local Government Area following a recent communal clash that claimed lives and destroyed property.
The governor made the appeal on Friday during a condolence visit to Lanzai community, where he met with victims of the violence and assessed the extent of the damage. He was accompanied by heads of security agencies and top government officials.
Describing the incident as unfortunate and heartbreaking, Mohammed noted that the two communities share a common ethnic background and have lived together peacefully for years.
He urged residents to shun violence and embrace dialogue, tolerance and understanding as tools for resolving disputes, stressing that no disagreement should result in bloodshed.
The governor also charged traditional rulers, religious leaders and community stakeholders to strengthen efforts aimed at promoting peaceful coexistence and detecting early signs of conflict before they escalate.
He assured residents of government support in restoring peace and rebuilding trust among the affected communities.
The Commissioner of Police, Sani Aliyu-Omolori, who accompanied the governor, said security agencies had restored calm in the area and would sustain operations to prevent further disturbances.
