The Federal Capital Territory ( FCT) Minister, Nyesom Wike on Thursday said he has no regrets over his comments suggesting that some opposition politicians were politicizing insecurity for their selfish reasons.
Wike also insisted that he has never said anything without meaning every bit of it, saying that “ I’m not going to retract or withdraw anything. What I said I stand by it, if anybody is not happy, he or she should take any action they want to take”.
The Minister disclosed this in Abuja after inspecting some projects completed and ready for commissioning to mark President Bola Tinubu’s third year anniversary.
Recall that members of the Nigeria Union of Teachers ( NUT) and Civil Society Organizations in Abuja had joined in a solidarity protest, during which they besieged the entrance to the Minister’s office, demanding immediate actions to end insecurity and also rescue the school children and teachers, abducted and still in captivity in Oyo State.
During the protest, Wike who personally addressed the protesters assured them that the government was making an effort to rescue the kidnapped victims, but warned that politicians should stop Politicizing Insecurity in the country.
According to Wike on Thursday, condemning and tackling insecurity in any part of the country should be given equal attention and measures, without any selective treatment, because it affects human lives and socio-economic development of the country.
He said: “If it happens in Sokoto, we should all be concerned. If it happens in Taraba, we should all be concerned. If it happens anywhere, we should all be concerned.
“There’s no particular area or particular act that is being carried out in any particular area, before everybody will say, oh we are concerned. That’s the point I’m trying to make. Whether anybody likes it or not, it’s their business. They are entitled to their own view.
“I don’t play to the gallery. I don’t say anything for the public to like me. But I say something that, look, everybody is concerned about this particular thing that’s going on but we should not also politicize it”, he added.
