2027: Mrs Hunpe, Badagry women rally support behind Sonayan-James

The wife of Badagry Local Government Chairman, Mrs Elizabeth Hunpe, and some Badagry All Progressives Congress (APC) women leaders have held a solidarity and endorsement rally in support of the party and its Deputy Governorship Candidate, Princess Damilola Sonayon-James.

The gathering, which drew women groups and political stakeholders across the three councils, became a unified platform for calls for mobilisation and loyalty ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Speaking at the gathering, Mrs Hunpe described the nomination of Princess Sonayon-James as a significant milestone for Badagry, noting that it represents a major step toward greater political inclusion and recognition for the division within Lagos State.

She urged residents and party members to remain united and committed to the APC, stressing that sustained support for the party would strengthen development efforts and deepen Badagry’s representation in governance.

Hunpe also commended the leadership of the APC and President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for what she described as a historic opportunity given to Badagry through the nomination.

She appealed to women in Badagry to go and collect their PVCs in order to vote e-mass in the coming election for APC.

Also speaking, the chief convener of the programme, Mrs Arinola Ajose, expressed appreciation to President Tinubu and the APC leadership for the confidence reposed in Princess Sonayon-James.

According to her, the nomination reflects years of advocacy for greater political recognition for Badagry and marks a historic achievement for the division

“Today, we gathered here to thank President Tinubu, APC GAC leaders and Pastors Cornelius Ojelabi, the APC chairman of Lagos State.

“We have been looking for this position for a long time. We are overwhelmed with her selection, today, they have given out daughter, Sonayan-James.

“We have gathered here to show appreciation and thank our leaders for this,” she said

She further acknowledged the role played by Dr Samuel Mauyon Ajose (SMA Gold), noting that his recent governorship aspiration further strengthened the argument for the inclusion of Badagry in top political positions.

She said every sons and daughters, old and young in Badagry were happy about the selection, adding that this would translate to more votes for APC in 2027 general election.

Alhaja Kikelomo Ladipo, the APC Apex woman in Badagry said she was grateful to President Tinubu for fulfilling his promise to late Ajose before his demise.

She said the event was necessary to appreciate Tinubu and other party leaders.

Also speaking, Mrs Folashade Ajose, wife of the Executive Chairman of Olorunda LCDA, called for intensified grassroots mobilisation across communities, describing the nomination as a rare political honour for Badagry.

She urged party members to translate their appreciation for the APC leadership into overwhelming electoral support, while commending efforts aimed at increasing women’s participation in governance.

The Wife of the Executive Chairman of Badagry West LCDA, Mrs Mariam Yemaren, described the nomination as a source of pride for the council and the entire division.

Also, Mrs Bukola Bamgbose, wife of the APC Apex Leader in Badagry West, called for sustained voter engagement and community mobilisation, describing Princess Sonayon-James’ candidacy as an inspiration to women and young people across the division.

Princess Sonayan-James who was represented by Mr Sesi Ogungbe, the Vice-Chairman, Badagry-West LCDA thanked people in Badagry for supporting her.

“I thank God for this because this is not my efforts but the wish of God.

“I want to appeal to my people in Badagry to support me in order to move Lagos and Badagry forward,” she said.

TheAPC in Lagos announced Princess Sonayon-James as its deputy governorship candidate for the 2027 governorship election.

Sonayon-James, an indigene of Badagry, will run alongside the party’s governorship candidate, Dr Obafemi Hamzat.
