Abeokuta, Ogun State – The Moshood Abiola Polytechnic (MAPoly), Abeokuta, has expelled no fewer than 365 students from its Higher National Diploma (HND) programmes after discovering that they gained admission into the institution using forged academic credentials.
The affected students were found to have presented falsified National Diploma (ND) results and forged academic transcripts during the admission and registration process, prompting the institution to take decisive disciplinary action.
The mass expulsion followed a comprehensive verification exercise conducted by the polytechnic to authenticate the credentials submitted by students across various departments and schools.
In a statement issued by the institution’s Public Relations Officer, Mr. Yemi Ajibola, the management disclosed that the fraudulent admissions were uncovered after a painstaking review and verification of academic documents presented by the affected students.
According to the statement, the School of Communication and Information Technology recorded the highest number of expulsions with 156 students affected. The School of Business and Management Studies followed with 117 cases, while the School of Science and Technology accounted for 54 students. The School of Engineering had 36 affected students, while two students were expelled from the School of Environmental Studies.
Speaking on the development, the Rector of the Polytechnic, Dr. Koye Jolaoso, described the action as a clear demonstration of the institution’s determination to safeguard academic integrity and uphold ethical standards.
He reiterated the polytechnic’s zero-tolerance stance on examination malpractice, certificate forgery, and all forms of academic fraud capable of undermining the credibility of qualifications awarded by the institution.
Dr. Jolaoso warned prospective applicants against attempting to gain admission through fraudulent means, stressing that the institution would continue to deploy stringent verification mechanisms to detect and prevent the use of fake credentials.
“The Polytechnic remains committed to preserving its reputation as a centre of academic excellence built on merit, credibility, transparency, and accountability,” the Rector stated.
He added that the institution would not compromise its standards and would continue to take firm action against anyone found engaging in practices that threaten the integrity of its academic system.
The development has sent a strong message to students and admission seekers that academic dishonesty will not be tolerated, as MAPoly intensifies efforts to maintain the credibility of its admission process and academic qualifications.
