2027: Jonathan’s Ratification As PDP Candidate In Jeopardy

The planned ratification of President Goodluck Jonathan as candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the 2027 presidential election is being threatened as the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) has directed owners of event centres and hotels in Abuja to refuse access to any political party faction not recognised by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

The Kabiru Tanimu Turaki-led faction of the PDP is planned to rectify the former president as its candidate for the 2027 presidential election on Saturday in Abuja.

But Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, in a statement on Friday by his Senior Special Assistant on Public Communications and Social Media, Lere Olayinka threatened to revoke the certificate of occupancy (C-of-O) of non-compliant event owner or hotel.

“Owners of Event Centres and Hotels in particular must ensure that they only deal with Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) recognied leadership of political parties in respect of the use of their facilities, and proper records of transactions must be kept,” the statement added.

The PDP faction loyal to Wike has adopted Sandy Onor as presidential candidate for the 2027. He was presented certificate of return this week.
