An aspirant for Kaduna Central Senatorial district 2027, under the All Progressives Congress (APC), Yerima Shettima, has formally withdrawn from the race ahead of the party’s primary election scheduled for Monday.
Shettima announced his withdrawal during a press conference on Sunday, saying the decision followed extensive consultations and careful reflection on developments within the party.
The move, according to him, was made in respect of the decision of the APC concerning the Kaduna Central senatorial contest.
“After wide consultations and deep reflection, I have decided to respect the decision of our great party regarding the senatorial contest,” he stated.
The former aspirant stressed that his withdrawal should not be interpreted as fear, weakness, or cowardice, but rather as a demonstration of loyalty to the party and commitment to unity.
“This decision is not borne out of fear, weakness, or cowardice, but rather from my unwavering commitment to party unity, discipline, and collective progress,” he added.
Shettima reaffirmed his loyalty to the APC and pledged continued support for all candidates that emerge under the party’s platform ahead of the 2027 general elections.
“As a loyal and committed party man, I remain steadfast in my support for the APC and reaffirm my readiness to continue contributing my quota towards the victory of our great party,” he said.
He also urged his supporters and political associates to remain calm and work for the success of the party.
“The unity and success of the APC must remain our collective priority,” he noted.
The former aspirant further called for reconciliation among aggrieved party members to strengthen cohesion and ensure lasting peace within the APC in Kaduna State.
Shettima appreciated members of the Capacity Movement led by Sani Shehu Sado, alongside members of his campaign council, for their support throughout the political process.
He equally reaffirmed his support for President Bola Tinubu and Kaduna State Governor Uba Sani.
“I hereby formally announce my withdrawal from the Kaduna Central Senatorial race in good spirit and align accordingly with party decisions,” Shettima said.
