The Federal Road Safety Corps has commenced a large-scale traffic decongestion exercise in Badagry, Lagos State, targeting major congestion points and clearing road obstructions to improve vehicular movement.
Speaking during the exercise, the Unit Commander, Badagry FRSC, Mr Yusuf Sanni said the operation formed part of the corps’ Corporate Social Responsibility drive and aligned with its 2026 strategic objective of enhancing road safety through proactive engagement and data-driven actions.
Sanni said that the essence of the operation was to reduce traffic gridlock on the road and also reducing traffic crashes on the country highway.
According to him, it also enhance free traffic level of motorists by ensuring clearance of obstruction.
“The exercise also improves FRSC visibility to the motoring public.
“The exercise will enable the command to identify the black spots on the road and fix them in consonance with FERMA or critical stakeholders.
“It will make the command to also know the minds and wants of the people,” he said.
Sanni said that through the exercise the command had identified traffic flashpoints within the town, including Badagry Roundabout, Mowo, Age-Mowo, Oko-Afo, Limca,
He noted that operatives were deployed early in the day to ease traffic flow and restore order along key road corridors.
According to him, the command had also removed abandoned and accident-damaged vehicles, as well as other obstructions, from critical areas to prevent accidents.
“These obstructions constitute serious risks to motorists, especially at night or during poor weather conditions.
“We have also undertaken temporary repairs on damaged portions of the roads in collaboration with community stakeholders,” he said.
The commander added that the palliative repairs were aimed at reducing accidents caused by potholes pending full rehabilitation by the appropriate authorities.
He assured residents that the command would sustain similar interventions and introduce regular operations to promote safer roads and protect lives and property.
The FRSC boss also pledged to strengthen collaboration with FERMA and local government authorities to enhance road management efforts.
He urged motorists to cooperate with officials during traffic control operations and cautioned against abandoning faulty vehicles on highways.
Sanni further advised members of the public to promptly report road obstructions or emergencies to the nearest FRSC office or through its toll-free line for swift response.
