A young Nigerian man has been brutally killed in a shocking early-morning knife attack in Madrid, with police swiftly arresting a Moroccan suspect.
The 20-year-old victim was stabbed to death in a public park in the Spanish capital at around 7:15am on Tuesday, May 5, sending shockwaves through the local community.
Horror unfolded at Paraíso Park in the San Blas district, where the attacker allegedly plunged a knife twice into the victim’s chest following a heated argument witnessed by several bystanders.
The victim, identified only by his initials D.O., collapsed as emergency services raced to the scene.
Dramatic footage captured the desperate attempts by rescue workers to save his life.
According to Madrid Emergencies, the attack took place near Alberique Street. National Police officers were first on the scene and immediately began CPR as the young man lay “bleeding profusely.”
Paramedics from Samur-Protección Civil soon joined efforts, continuing resuscitation attempts for over 30 minutes. Tragically, medics were ultimately forced to declare that nothing more could be done.
The suspected attacker, a 38-year-old Moroccan man, fled the scene on foot but was tracked down roughly an hour later on Emilio Ferrari Street — just a short distance away.
Police sources say he was “covered in blood” at the time of his arrest, although the murder weapon has yet to be recovered.
Eyewitnesses reportedly identified the suspect “without a doubt,” describing him as a homeless individual known to use drugs.
Investigators believe the deadly confrontation may have been sparked by a dispute linked to narcotics, according to local reports by El Pais.
Forensic teams remain at the scene as authorities continue their investigation.
The area has reportedly been plagued by repeated violent incidents in recent years and is said to be a hotspot for individuals struggling with drug dependency.
