The lawmaker representing Badagry Constituency 1 in Lagos State House of Assembly, Mr Bonu Solomon said the state government will start Akran Legacy Festival from 2027 to honour the memory of late Akran of Badagry, Aholu Menu Toyi 1, who died on Jan.12.
Solomon disclosed this at the
Fitila Procession organised by Lagos State on Thursday night as part of Burial Rites of the late monarch.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the youths in Badagry Federation gathered at the popular Roundabout to light up Fitila in honour of late Akran.
Solomon described the Akran Legacy Festival as a central highlight.
“Akran of Badagry did much to uplift youths.
“This festival will open the Badagry economy as a three-day trade and entertainment hub.
“People from all walks of life will be attending the yearly festival consequently, we call on all people of Badagry, home and abroad, to celebrate the Akran’s legacy,” he added.
Chief Adeyinka Amosu, chairman of Media and Publicity committee, said people from different part of the world and Nigeria had been invited to the grand burial ceremony at Badagry Grammar School open field on May 2.
He noted the celebration signalled renewed state attention to development in Badagry Division.
Also speaking, Chief Emmanuel Ijinnla, the initiator of Fitila Possession, commended the youths for coming out e-mass to honour the late Akran.
He described the turnout as a clear testimony that the late Akran lived for his people and his name will never die.
He commend the Lagos State Government for taking up the responsibility of taking over the burial ceremony.
NAN reports that the ceremony featured tributes, cultural displays, poetry, drumming, and exhibitions of the late monarch’s achievements.
NAN reports that the Fitila Possession started at the roundabout with youth and elders lighting up filita and marched from the place to Badagry Grammar School to Mobil along Dosu Joseph Road to Agbalata market in Badagry before marching to the palace.
NAN reports that the youths and the elders were in the same polo and wrapper specially made for the ceremony.
NAN also reports that the possession was led by the lawmaker, Adeyinla and Ijinnla, singing dancing with a local drummers playing for them, praising the memory of late king.
