Former presidential candidate of the Labour Party, Mr. Peter Obi, has donated N25 million to three schools in Bauchi State, using the opportunity to stress the need for improved security and access to education in Nigeria.
The donation, made under the Obedient Movement, saw Malikiya College of Nursing Sciences and Thomas Moore College of Health Technology receive N10 million each, while Madarasatul Intisharul Islamiyya was given N5 million.
Obi, who spoke at the Islamiyya school, said insecurity remains a major concern that must be urgently addressed to guarantee a safe learning environment for children.
“Our children should be able to live, learn and dream in an environment free from fear,” he said, adding that education and security must go hand in hand for meaningful development.
He also announced scholarship support for outstanding and indigent students, including Amina Abubakar Ahmed, who was offered university sponsorship.
In his remarks, the proprietor of the Islamiyya school, Adamu Umar Jibrin, commended Obi’s contributions and urged him to prioritise security if he contests in the 2027 presidential election.
The cleric also pledged support for Obi’s vision, noting that improved safety and education are critical to Nigeria’s progress.
Our correspondent reports that Mr. Obi’s donation was the second of its kind, following a similar contribution last year for school facilities and equipment upgrades.
