The Ogun State Police Command has intensified its ongoing traffic decongestion drive, impounding six vehicles and removing illegal structures obstructing major roads in Sango Ota and Ijebu Ode areas of Ogun State.
The Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, disclosed this in a statement on Monday, noting that the exercise was carried out under the Command’s “Operation No Traffic Gridlock.”
According to Babaseyi, coordinated night operations led by the Area Commander in Sango Ota resulted in the removal of shanties and makeshift structures erected on road setbacks, which had contributed to persistent traffic congestion in the area.
He added that early morning enforcement operations, which commenced as early as 5:00 a.m., led to the clearance of major obstruction points and the impoundment of six vehicles found to be in violation of traffic regulations.
“The area has since witnessed improved traffic flow, while sustained monitoring continues to ensure compliance,” he said.
Babaseyi further disclosed that similar enforcement operations were carried out at the Ijebu Ode Toll Gate axis, targeting indiscriminate parking of heavy-duty trucks and roadside trading along the highway.
He explained that the intervention led to the systematic clearance of truck build-ups and other obstructions, resulting in significant improvement in vehicular movement within the corridor.
The police spokesman stressed that continuous monitoring and enforcement measures have been put in place to sustain the gains achieved.
He warned that illegal parking, roadside trading, and obstruction of highways would not be tolerated, adding that offenders would be arrested and prosecuted in accordance with the law.
Babaseyi reiterated the Command’s commitment to sustaining the operation until seamless traffic flow is achieved across affected corridors, while urging members of the public to comply with traffic regulations and support ongoing enforcement efforts.
