Nigeria forward Akor Adams has expressed delight after Sevilla FC boosted their survival hopes with a hard-fought 2-1 victory over Atlético Madrid on Saturday night.
The encounter, played at the Estadio Ramón Sánchez-Pizjuán, saw the hosts secure a crucial win to move out of the relegation zone.
Adams opened scoring for Sevilla from the penalty spot, giving his side an early advantage in a lively contest.
The visitors responded in the 35th minute through Javier Bonar, who restored parity to ensure both sides went into the break on level terms.
However, Sevilla captain Nemanja Gudelj netted the decisive goal with a header to hand Luis García Plaza’s side maximum points.
The victory ended a run of three consecutive league defeats for Sevilla and significantly boosted their chances of avoiding relegation.
Reacting after the game, Adams said the team gave their all to secure the much-needed win for their supporters.
“We gave 100 per cent and achieved our objective, which was the three points. The fans’ support was incredible; it gave us great energy. We play for them, and if we’re all like this, we’ll be happy every week,” he said.
The win lifts Sevilla out of the bottom three, offering renewed hope in their fight for top-flight survival.
