The African Democratic Congress (ADC) on Thursday conducted its ward and local government congresses across Edo State, covering all 192 wards and 18 local government areas, to elect new party leaders.
The party also confirmed its readiness for the state congress scheduled for Saturday, April 11.
In Egor Local Government Area, Chief Isaac Emokpae emerged as chairman alongside about 30 other executive members through a consensus arrangement.
Party members, dressed in ADC caps and other branded attire, began arriving at the party’s local government secretariat located in Egor, near Uwelu Spare Parts Market, as early as 10 am.
The congress was officially called to order at about 12:10 pm, after which the leaders were unanimously endorsed.
Speaking after his emergence,
Emokpae dismissed claims of factionalisation within the Egor chapter, insisting that members in the area remained united and committed to strengthening the party across the state.
He said, “This is a new era, an era for good changes, an era for victory. An era for every well meaning Nigerians to triumph to the apex of the goodness of the Nigerians.
“I want to use this medium to beg our people to come and embrace this moving train, the ADC as a party. This is the only avenue that the bad governance, the oppression, the insecurity, the hunger, the inflation can be reduced. So I want to urge everybody to be encouraged to have more hope on ADC. By the grace of God we shall triumph.
“In Edo, as you can see that we returned most of the exco, we are together, we don’t have division. So if there is anybody forming a division or faction the person is on his own.”
Similarly, in Akoko-Edo Local Government Area . It was also confirmed that the exercise was conducted peacefully, with executives returned through consensus.
