The Oyo State Police have arrested two members of Agbekoya militia group in Ibadan over the death of an Okada rider in a violent clash
It was learnt that the Okada rider reportedly lost his life during a clash late Saturday at Olorunda Aba area of Ibadan during a clash between members of the Okada rider group and the Agbekoya militia group.
Following the death of the Okada rider identified as Awo, the Police Public Relations Officer in the state, DSP Ayanlade Olayinka said two members of the Agbekoya group in the area had been arrested by the police.
The clash according to sources in the area erupted as a result of the alleged apprehension of one of the Okada riders by members of the Agbekoya group over an alleged offence, after which other Okada riders reportedly mobilised and engaged the Agbekoya members for the release of their member.
Sources said the clash turned violent leading to the death of the Okada rider, identified as Awo, with others injured.
Oyo State Police command, in a statement, confirmed the death of one of the Okada riders in the clash.
The PPRO stated that two members of the Agbekoya militia group have been arrested by the Police in connection with the clash.
“Concerning the clash between Okada rider and Agbekoya, around 7pm on Saturday resulting in the death of one Okada rider known only as Awo, the Oyo state police command has arrested two Agbekoya members,” he said.
The PPRO added, “An investigation is ongoing to arrest the remaining one. Meanwhile the situation has been brought under control”, he said.
