President Bola Tinubu has congratulated Nigerian football administrator, Samson Adamu, on his historic appointment as Acting General Secretary of the Confederation of African Football, describing it as a proud moment for Nigeria and the West African subregion.
The President noted that Adamu’s appointment, announced on Saturday, March 29, 2025, marked the first time a Nigerian has occupied the top administrative position in CAF since its establishment in 1957.
Adamu, who previously served as Director of Tournaments and Events at CAF, assumed the role in an acting capacity, following the departure of Veron Mosengo-Omba.
The President described the appointment as a significant milestone for Nigerian sports and a strong affirmation of the country’s enduring leadership and influence in African football administration.
The President commended Adamu’s track record of excellence, professionalism, and dedication, particularly his contributions to the successful organisation and delivery of major CAF competitions, which have elevated the standard of football events across the continent.
Tinubu further noted that the appointment came at a time of renewed focus on sports development in Nigeria, under his administration’s broader commitment to youth empowerment, national unity, and global competitiveness.
He expressed confidence that Adamu would bring his wealth of experience, strategic insight, and administrative competence to bear in strengthening CAF’s operations and advancing the growth of football across its 54 member associations.
The President wished him success in his acting role and assured him of Nigeria’s full support as he undertook this historic responsibility.
