A group of concerned citizens of Sokoto State has called on statutory agencies to be wary of political collusion in the investigation of Sen. Aminu Tambuwal and other past government officials of Sokoto State.
The group, Sokoto Progressive Vanguards, made the call in a statement signed by its Chairman, Hon. Yusha’u Musa Alkanci, and issued to the newsmen on Wednesday in Sokoto.
The group urged the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC), Police, and Department of State Services (DSS) not to dance to the tune of politicians who are desperate to incriminate Tambuwal and his associates.
The group’s concern followed the presentation made by the judicial commission of inquiry, which contained allegations against Tambuwal’s administration.
The group noted that it is widely known that the present administration of Gov. Ahmad Aliyu is allegedly working with some groups and individuals who have political differences with Tambuwal to discredit almost all his good stewardship when he was governor of Sokoto State.
The group described the development as a “desperate attempt” to tarnish Tambuwal’s image and questioned the timing and composition of the commission of inquiry.
They also pointed out that the investigation should go beyond Tambuwal’s administration, as he inherited many issues from the previous government.
The group further alleged that the present administration is more interested in discrediting Tambuwal’s administration than doing good projects for the citizens of Sokoto State.
They urged the anti-graft agencies to adhere to transparent legal procedures and not be swayed by political considerations.
