Kano Electricity Company Accuses Union Of Plunging Millions Into Darkness

The Management of the Kano Electricity Distribution Company, KEDCO, has Queried the attitudes of the Electricity Workers Union by withdrawing power and shutting down the KEDCO affecting millions people in the three franchised States of Kano, Katsina and Jigawa States.

The Managing Director of the Company, Dr. Abubakar Shuaibu Jimaita who is reacting to the shutting down of operations of the Company over issues of allowances and legacy Money, said the Union are morally wrong and is a bad precedence to put in he lives of Millions of people in jeopardy because of an internal matter.

Dr Abubakar Shuaibu Jimaita, who was speaking to Newsmen in Kano, Tuesday on the matter, notes that the issues of legacy unpaid money was something they have resolved with the union and actively as Management they have not reneged in their agreement.

He said, “we have assured them to be paying the legacy money which though we inherited from 2019 alongside the January 2026 Salary and we have fully commenced by paying up to 15 out of 19 months, so why the shutting down”.

Dr Abubakar, reminded that privatisation exercise took place in 2013 to date 2026, he took over office through Future Energy Africa Investors in 2025, abd the Co Investors took time to ensure that all pending matters are resolved amicably.

“Now I’m seven months old in the Company, and I can tell you that on the very first day I assumed office the Union picketed KEDCO that they have unresolved matters which is the legacy issues and pension”.

“And we agreed that we will be paying pension and one month arrears out of the total money we paid 15 out of 19 schedules money to be paid.

There is appraisal issues of 2019-2025 total outstanding to the tune of N510 Million and gradually they are settling all the money.

Since the took over of Future energy Africa in 2025 they have been up and doing in making the Company competitive by investing N1.3 Billion to improve power at Dawanau International Grains Market, by this he added that they are trying to make KEDCO one of the best Distribution company in Nigeria.

“For the past five years when we came on board our Staff were not promoted total staff of 2000 and we promoted over 1500, despite serious Challenges for over ten years on ground could not be tackle at once there must be careful plans and strategy”, he added.
