Late Sunday, fire ravaged shops and residential buildings at Goldie area of Calabar South and destroyed goods and property worth millions of naira.
Our correspondent learnt that the fire broke out when many people were not at home and burnt no less than three shops stocked with foams and other items meant for sale.
According to a source who gave his name as “Papa Junior” the fire had nearly ravaged the shops and residential buildings before fire service drove in.
“People were angry and and decided to stone their vehicle with stones, pure water satchel and whatever they could handle. The firemen retreated because people didn’t want them anymore.”
He just as the people noticed the fire outbreak, they called the University of Calabar fire service, the federal fire service and the state fire service only for the service to arrive long after the fire had caused a lot of damages.
A Journalist with Triumph newspaper, Musa Kutama claimed that he lost mattress and a digital camera to Samaritans who were in the compound, helping to.pack his belongings.
