Edo Assembly recommends repossession of MOWAA, Radisson Blu Hotel

The Edo State House of Assembly ad-hoc committees investigating the Museum of West African Art (MOWAA) and the Radisson Blu Hotel have submitted their reports, calling on the state government to repossess both properties.

The committees disclosed that findings from their investigations indicate that the land titles and funding associated with the two projects are owned by the Edo State Government. Based on this, the panels raised concerns about the current ownership structure and control of the projects, recommending that the state reclaim them.

The submission of the reports is expected to trigger renewed public discussion and prompt official steps as the Edo State Government considers the recommendations and determines its next course of action in the days ahead.

Recall that ownership and funding of the two projects which were started during the administration of Mr Godwin Obaseki have been largely criticized, prompting the Edo State government to set up committees with the objective of determining the state’s financial obligations, liabilities and benefits.

Edo State Commissioner for Information, Kassim ‎Afegbua speaking on the criticisms the probes has generated said that Governor Monday Okpebholo administration is guided by due process and the need to strengthen transparency and accountability in public finance management.

‎“We owe Edo people clarity on how their money was used. This is essential for planning, governance continuity and historical record,” he stated.

‎He disclosed that upon conclusion of the ongoing internal reviews, the state government would take steps consistent with the law, including engagement with relevant regulatory and anti-corruption agencies, where necessary.
