The Nigerian Army Officers’ Wives Association (NAOWA) on Wednesday inaugurated a model school in 15 Field Engineer Regiment Topo Barracks, Badagry, Lagos to cater for the educational needs of children of officers and soldiers in the barracks community.
Speaking shortly before the inauguration, the President of NAOWA, Mrs Safiyyah Shaibu, said Creche and Nursery School would support army families and offer opportunities for children of the personnel including those of fallen heroes .
According to her the school will ease burden on parents, provide a conducive learning space for our little ones and promote holistic development through structured care and early education.
“We are not only providing a conducive learning environment for our children, but also empowering them with the knowledge, skills and values necessary to succeed in life.
“I urge the teachers, staff and pupils to make good use of the facilities in the school,” she said.
She noted that the association is dedicated to welfare and service, ensuring that even the youngest members of our community are not left behind.
Shaibu commended the chairperson of NAOWA 81 Division, Mrs. Zainab Mijinyawa for their passion and effective coordination in bring the project to reality.
The NAOWA president thanked them for ensuring the completion of the project within a short period of time and for the high quality of the work done.
She stated further that they must continue to innovate, collaborate, and invest in projects that would uplift lives and sustain the legacies of compassion and service that define NAOWA.
In his welcome address, The Commanding Officer, 15 Field Engineer Regiment, Lt. Col. SL Lawan said that the establishment of the school would reduce the challenge faced by military on transporting the young children to school outside the barracks on daily basis.
He said the school comprises of a Creche classroom, two nursery classrooms, staff room, personal assistant office, convinces and a play ground.
The Commanding Officer commended and appreciated the COAS Lt General W Shuiabu, National President, NAOWA, Mrs Shaibu, GOC 81 Division, Maj General Farouk Mijinyawa and Commander 45 Brigade Engineers for providing the needed support in achieving success.
“The school will continue to grow and evolve into a beacon of excellence in early childhood education across Nigerian Army formations and units,” he said.
Earlier, in her remarks, the Chairperson, NAOWA 15 Field Engineer Regiment Area Representative, Mrs Lawan said the school represented a milestone in NAOWA’s commitment to providing quality education for children.
According to Mrs Lawan, the school symbolises hope, opportunity and a brighter future for children of the serving personnel in the Nigerian Army.
She thanked the President of NAOWA, for her style of leadership and commitment to the welfare of military families.
She also extended appreciation to the Chairperson 81 Division Chapter NAOWA, Mrs Mijinyawa for her generosity, dedication and personal sacrifice to made the dream a reality.
The dignitaries at the inauguration include the traditional ruler of Iworo Kingdom, Oba Oladele Kosoko, Controller of Nigeria Immigration Service Seme Command, Mr Adamu Abdullah and representatives of the Chairman and other security agencies.
