Police in Anambra State have detained five men in connection with a series of vandalism and armed robbery incidents at an international company in Agulu, Anaocha Local Government Area. The arrests, made during a coordinated operation by the Rapid Response Squad and officers from the Neni Divisional Headquarters, mark a significant step in the state’s efforts to curb rising criminal activities.
The suspects have been identified as Okemili Chikwado, 20 years old; Collins Nwakpa, 23 years old; Chukwuemeka Igboke, 18 years old; Nwali Chinedu, 18 years old; and Ekene Nwakwo, 22. Police investigations revealed that the men were involved in multiple cases of property destruction and theft targeting the company’s premises. During interrogation, the suspects reportedly admitted to their involvement and provided information that helped authorities identify a major receiver of the stolen items.
During the operation, law enforcement officers recovered a pump-action gun, ten live ammunition cartridges, and a black motorcycle allegedly used in committing the offenses. These items are expected to form crucial evidence as the suspects are prepared for formal charges in court. Police authorities emphasized that the investigation is ongoing and that additional arrests may follow as they track down others involved.
Residents of Agulu and surrounding communities have expressed relief at the arrests, noting that recent criminal incidents had raised concerns about safety and security for both businesses and households.
