NNPC and Heirs Energies Halt Gas Flaring at OML 17, Secure New Offtaker Deals

Gas flaring at the OML 17 asset has officially stopped following a joint move by the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited and Heirs Energies. The milestone comes as part of a broader push to boost production efficiency and expand Nigeria’s gas utilisation efforts.

Alongside ending the long-standing flares, the partners have also finalised agreements with new offtakers who will receive processed gas from the facility. These deals are aimed at strengthening domestic supply, supporting industries, and enhancing overall energy stability.

The development marks a significant step in improving environmental performance in the sector, reducing emissions, and pushing Nigeria closer to its cleaner-energy goals. It also reflects increased investor confidence in the OML 17 operations since Heirs Energies assumed control of the asset.

The collaboration is expected to drive further growth, with both companies emphasising their commitment to long-term gas development and improved value delivery for the country.
