The Confederation of African Football has unveiled the official mascot for the TotalEnergies Africa Cup of Nations Morocco 2025. Named Assad, the mascot draws inspiration from the Atlas lion, a symbol of strength and unity across Morocco and the African continent.
CAF describes Assad as more than just a tournament figure. The mascot is designed to engage audiences of all ages, particularly children and families, while fostering a lasting emotional connection with African football. His energetic personality and expressive features reflect the creativity, warmth, and diversity of the continent.
“Assad will lead fan engagement across stadiums, fan zones, and community events, while supporting digital campaigns and interactive experiences,” CAF said. The mascot also represents CAF’s long-term vision, featuring in youth development programs, school initiatives, and grassroots football activities beyond the 2025 tournament.
The tournament is scheduled to kick off on Sunday, December 21, 2025, and conclude on Sunday, January 18, 2026. Assad’s name, meaning ‘lion’ in Arabic, embodies pride, power, and cultural authenticity, resonating deeply with fans across Africa.
CAF also highlighted the mascot’s design, noting that his color palette and overall style are aligned with the official branding for the Morocco 2025 AFCON, ensuring a consistent and vibrant visual identity throughout the event.
“Introducing Assad marks a milestone in shaping the character of the tournament and enhancing its cultural significance,” the organisers said. By connecting with the next generation of African football enthusiasts, Assad aims to inspire young talent and elevate the tournament’s impact across the continent.
