The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet), in collaboration with the Institute of Strategic Management of Nigeria (Chartered), has taken steps to strengthen managerial capacity in order to enhance operational efficiency.
Accordingly, the two agencies of the Federal Government held a two-day Executive Leadership Programme (ELP): Strategic Management in Public Sector for senior and mid-level management staff.
A press statement from the NiMet Media Office, Abuja on Sunday, noted that the programme was declared open by the Director-General/CEO of NiMet, Prof. Charles Anosike.
In his remarks, Anosike said: “No country need be poor if it has people and good management. Today we are gathered here to learn and grow together and ensure that we continue to demonstrate capacity to manage adaptive challenges of climate change.
“Continuous improvement means getting better every day. The key to operational success in growing uncertainty lies in ability of managers to demonstrate multidimensional approach to performance.
“Management was created as a way to reduce chaos in organizations to make them run more efficiently and effectively. In that regard, our work requires that we consistently and committedly seek to establish order and stability to drive operational excellence, challenging and respecting our team members and by so doing we grow trust and teamwork.”
The statement informed that the programme featured concise, high-impact sessions on: Succession Planning– building a structured pathway for future leadership.
It also features Stakeholders’ Engagement – strengthening partnerships across government, industry, and the public.
More over, the leadership programme featured Financial Management– enhancing budgeting, expenditure control, and risk mitigation.
It further featured Public Entrepreneurship and Innovation– applying creative thinking and PPP models to improve public service delivery.
Strategic Leadership & Management Grid– balancing leadership and managerial effectiveness, was also featured in the programme.
Others are: Organizational Culture– fostering a collaborative, values-driven work environment; Strategy Games & Simulations– sharpening decision-making and team collaboration, and Ethics & Team Leadership-reinforcing transparency, fairness, and team cohesion.
The statement posits that this initiative reflects NiMet’s ongoing commitment to continuous professional development, operational excellence, and strengthening the capacity of its workforce to deliver accurate, timely, and reliable meteorological services for national growth and sustainability.
