Ogun Police Dismisses Viral video Threat, Say Footage Was Ai-Generated

The Ogun State Police Command has refuted viral video clips circulating on social media that claim imminent attacks on several communities and tertiary institutions across the state, describing the footage as artificially generated and misleading.

In a statement issued on Wednesday, the Command said a forensic analysis conducted by its cybercrime and intelligence units confirmed that the videos were created using artificial intelligence (AI) by yet-to-be-identified individuals or groups. The police emphasized that the content did not originate from any recognized terrorist organisation or operational cell.

According to the Command, investigators traced the earliest appearance of the footage to a foreign online source approximately three months ago, before it resurfaced in altered versions across various social media platforms.

The police stressed that contrary to online speculation, no credible intelligence suggests any planned attack on Ogun communities, schools, or public institutions.

“The Command urges members of the public to remain calm, avoid spreading unverified materials, and continue their lawful activities without fear,” the statement read.

Residents were further encouraged to report any suspicious persons, movements, or activities to the nearest police formation.

To reinforce public confidence, the Commissioner of Police has ordered increased surveillance, enhanced patrols, and stronger inter-agency collaboration across the state.

Reassuring the public, the Command affirmed that Ogun State remains safe, stable, and fully secured, adding that security agencies and stakeholders are working together with unwavering commitment to protect lives and property.
