‘Nobody could have escaped’ Man Abducted During Kwara Church Attack Recounts His Ordeal in Kidnappers’ Den

One of the 38 worshippers abducted from Christ Apostolic Church, Ekuru in Kwara State on Tuesday, November 18, has shared the harrowing experience he endured while being held captive by bandits.

The victims, taken during an evening thanksgiving service held in honour of previously freed church members, were released on Sunday, November 24. The middle-aged man, speaking with journalists after regaining his freedom, described the attack and their time in captivity as deeply traumatic.

“It was a terrifying experience. About 30 minutes into the programme, just after the praise session, we suddenly heard gunshots. At first, I thought it was wires sparking, but before we could understand what was happening, they had already surrounded the entire church. Some people even said they noticed traces of blood around,” he recalled.

He added that the kidnappers appeared completely familiar with the bush paths and operated confidently within the area.

“When we got to their hideout, it was clear the place was dominated by these people we call bandits. They boldly identified themselves as bandits and warned us that no one could escape. From what we saw, escape was impossible. They know every route in the bushes across Kwara and neighbouring states.”
