NDLEA Cracks Down on Social Media Influencer Selling Cannabis-Infused Cookies

In Edo State, the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has arrested 19-year-old social media influencer Praise Nwogu, popularly known as Candy, for allegedly promoting and selling cookies containing cannabis online. The arrest comes after weeks of surveillance targeting an online drug distribution network.

Authorities also apprehended 25-year-old Ebong Oghosa, believed to be responsible for producing the cannabis-laced baked goods. During the operation, Nwogu was found in possession of multiple trays of brownies and other treats infused with cannabis, while Oghosa had raw cannabis, Colorado (a potent form of cannabis), and baking equipment. Nwogu, originally from Imo State but living in Benin, was identified as the primary promoter of the products, often showcasing them in social media videos.

NDLEA Edo State commander Mitchell Ofoyeju explained that the arrests underline the agency’s commitment to tracking and dismantling modern drug trafficking methods, particularly those exploiting online platforms. He confirmed that the investigation is ongoing and said the suspects will soon face legal proceedings. The commander also cautioned others involved in online drug promotion to expect enforcement action.

In addition, the NDLEA has recently destroyed nine cannabis farms across Edo State, working with the state government to reduce illegal cultivation while promoting lawful agricultural alternatives.
