Bauchi State Government has announced the immediate shutdown of all primary, secondary, and tertiary institutions across the state following heightened security concerns affecting school environments.
The directive, which also affects Federal Government-owned institutions and private schools, was issued on Sunday after what officials described as “extensive consultations” with security agencies and relevant stakeholders.
In a statement signed by Jalaludeen Usman the Information and Public Relations Officer of the Bauchi State Ministry of Education, the government said the decision, though difficult, became necessary to safeguard the lives of students, teachers, and school communities.
“The protection of our children remains our highest moral responsibility. Every student in Bauchi State deserves to learn in an environment that is safe, stable, and free of fear,” the statement read.
The government urged parents, guardians, school proprietors, and the general public to remain calm and avoid panic, assuring that collaborative efforts with security agencies are already underway to address the situation urgently.
Authorities further appealed to residents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities in their communities, emphasizing that public cooperation is crucial to maintaining safety.
Normal academic activities, according to the ministry, will resume once security agencies give assurances that the environment is safe.
The state government promised to provide continuous updates as developments unfold.
