The Plateau State Government has called for calm after ordering an early shutdown of schools across the state in response to rising security concerns linked to kidnapping incidents reported in other parts of the country. The directive, issued through the Ministry of Education and the State Universal Basic Education Board, instructed Government Junior Model Secondary Schools to close beginning Saturday, with all primary and day schools to follow by Monday.
The order also suspended all academic and administrative activities until the state issues further guidance. The announcement triggered heavy movement around the Jos–Bukuru axis, as families rushed to retrieve their children from schools.
Officials explained that the decision was taken as a preventive measure to protect students and staff. The government urged residents to cooperate, avoid panic, and refrain from circulating unconfirmed reports.
The Commissioner for Information, Joyce Ramnap, assured the public that the situation is under control and that Governor Caleb Mutfwang’s administration remains focused on safeguarding communities across the state.
