Questions are rising in Kebbi after Governor Nasir Idris called for a full investigation into why soldiers left Government Girls’ Comprehensive Secondary School in Maga just one hour before armed bandits struck. His concern grew stronger when he confirmed that the state had already warned security agencies about an imminent threat, prompting a decision to deploy personnel to the school earlier.
The governor made his appeal while hosting the Minister of State for Defence, Bello Matawalle, who arrived under presidential orders to lead the rescue operation for the 25 abducted students. Idris stressed that intelligence had clearly indicated danger, making the timing of the military’s withdrawal deeply troubling.
He highlighted the state’s investment in security, including hundreds of vehicles and motorcycles provided to agencies, and urged residents to pray for the safe return of the girls. He reaffirmed readiness to work closely with the military to bring the students home.
Matawalle assured the state that he and top commanders were in Kebbi strictly to coordinate the rescue mission, emphasizing that they would not rest until the operation was completed.
