President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has postponed his planned trips to Johannesburg, South Africa, and Luanda, Angola, following fresh security concerns in Kebbi and Kwara states.
The President was expected to travel today to attend the 20th G20 Summit of leaders in South Africa before proceeding to Angola for the 7th AU–EU Summit. However, the kidnapping of schoolgirls in Kebbi State and the attack on worshippers at Christ Apostolic Church, Eruku, in Ekiti Local Government Area of Kwara State forced a change of plans.
According to a statement by the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Mr Bayo Onanuga, President Tinubu decided to suspend his departure to receive detailed security briefings.
In response to the appeal from the Kwara State governor, the President has ordered the deployment of additional security personnel to Eruku and the surrounding areas. He also directed the police to pursue the bandits responsible for the attack on worshippers.
President Tinubu is now awaiting comprehensive reports from Vice President Kashim Shettima, who visited Kebbi State on his behalf, and from security agencies, including the Nigeria Police and the Department of State Services, on the Kwara incident.
The President reaffirmed his instruction to security agencies to intensify efforts and ensure the rescue of the 24 schoolgirls abducted in Kebbi State.
