Early Morning Blaze Hits 23-Room Kwara Hotel, Firefighters Contain Damage

An early morning fire broke out at the Ebunlomo Hotel and Resort in Ilorin, Kwara State, threatening to engulf the 23-room facility before it was successfully brought under control by the state fire service.

The incident occurred around 5:07 a.m. on Tuesday, mainly affecting the hotel’s bar area and an adjacent storage section, while the hotel’s accommodation block was spared major damage thanks to swift firefighting efforts.

According to Hassan Adekunle, the spokesperson for the Kwara State Fire Service, firefighters arrived quickly and executed a coordinated response that prevented the flames from spreading further. Initial investigations suggest that a power surge triggered the blaze in the bar and store areas.

Prince Falade John, the Fire Service Director, warned hotel operators and residents about the importance of electrical safety. He advised that all commercial and residential properties should be equipped with surge protectors and functional circuit breakers.

John further emphasised the need for regular electrical inspections, noting that routine maintenance and adherence to safety measures are the most effective ways to prevent destructive fires.

The fire service assured the public that protecting lives and property across the state remains a top priority, with ongoing monitoring and preventive measures in place.

The Kwara incident follows another fire on Monday night in Rivers State, where properties worth millions of naira were destroyed at the Rumuola area in Obio/Akpor local government.
