Turaki emerges New National Chairman of PDP

Kabiru Tanimu Turaki has been declared as the new National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) having polled 1,516 votes to defeat his contender Sen. Yakubu Lande who polled 275 votes.

The announcement was made at 11.25 p.m before a mammoth gathering of politicians who had converged at the Lekan Salami Stadium for thee Elective National Convention of the party.

Total votes cast was 1,834.

For the post of a deputy National Organizing Secretary, Solarin Sunday Adekunle emerged winner with a total number of valid votes amounting 633 to beat his two other contenders.

Breaking the figures down, it was announced that a total number of eligible delegates was 3,131. Total accredited delegates was 2,745. Void votes was 18. In it, Adelabu Malomo Folahan polled 509. Olabode Ogundipe 417. Solarin Sunday Adekunle 633. Total votes cast was 1,577, and Solarin Sunday Adekunle emerged winner., having scored the highest number of votes in the valid votes cast. He was therefore declared the winner and returned as the Deputy National Organizing Secretary.

As at 11 30 p.m, announcement of the results was made with cheering applause from the gathering. Delegates. A heavy fireworks immediately rent the air in celebration.

Turaki takes over from the erstwhile National Chairman Ambassador Umar Damagun.
