PDP members going to Ibadan for jamboree, not convention – Wike’s Group

The Wike-led faction of the Peoples Democratic Party ( PDP) has said that any member of the party going to Ibadan is not doing so for the proposed national convention, but for jamboree.

The group, after its emergency meeting in Abuja on Thursday, noted that the orders of the Federal High Court judgement barring the party from going ahead with the convention, remains very clear.

The faction’s chairman Board of Trustees (BoT), Senator Mao Ohuabunwa disclosed that “ the proposed national convention in Ibadan is not only at variance with the clear judgment of the Federal High Court but is also against the spirit of the law and the rule of law”.

According to him, the PDP national secretary, Senator Sam Anyanwu had issued a circular, notifying members about the postponement of the convention.

Ohuabunwa explained that the party will not accept fragrant abuse of the constitution by anyone, saying its members would not disobey court judgements.

“We have met as the national working committee of the PDP, and reviewed our activities. We have agreed to obey all the court decisions on the Ibadan convention. So, we are not part of the exercise. Ibadan is a public place, people can go for anything but not for convention, anyone going there in the name of convention should consider it a jamboree.

“We won’t tolerate fragrant abuse of the constitution by some individuals in the name of a convention” Ohuabunwa said.

Also Speaking, the factional Acting National Chairman of the party , Abdulrahman Muhammad advised delegates to stay away from the convention and wait for the right time.

Muhammad promised to keep mobilising members across the 36 states and the FCT for a strong and united PDP.

“We are concerned with moving PDP forward, therefore, all delegates across the country should stay away from the Ibadan convention” said Muhammad.

On his part, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike commended members of the party who are supporting those bent on disobeying extant court orders.

He insisted that his camp will always uphold the rule of law, and would not succumb to intimidation. Pledging not to betray those that believe in the constitution of the party.

“I am happy with your concern about the party in your respective areas, I will continue to support you people, I won’t betray you people” he said.
