Nkanu West Rallies Behind Mbah as Enugu Unity Forum Expands Structures

Nkanu West has emerged as one of the strongest rallying points for Governor Peter Mbah’s reelection movement, as the Enugu Unity Forum (EUF) expands its grassroots structures across the local government. The momentum was evident on Wednesday during the inauguration of the local government and 14 ward executives of the Forum, where leaders and stakeholders declared total support for the Governor’s second-term bid.

Speaking at the event, the Chairman of Nkanu West Local Government Area, Hon. John Chukwuma Ogbodo, said it was only natural that the EUF would thrive in Nkanu West, given the transformational impact Governor Mbah has made in the are, particularly in restoring peace and eliminating the menace of unknown gunmen that once terrorised communities before Mbah took office in May 2023.

“Gov. Mbah eliminated unknown gunmen from Nkanu West. Peter Mbah is a good product that sells itself, particularly on security. Unknown gunmen had frightened us, but peace has now been stabilized since Mbah came in”, Ogbodo said.

He also highlighted the governor’s investments in education, noting that the Smart School project in Nkanu West has already begun.

He urged parents to ensure their children benefit from the new model schools, and called on residents without voter’s cards to take advantage of the ongoing registration.

The Zonal Coordinator of EUF in Enugu East Senatorial Zone, Dr. Chukwuemeka Nwatu, told the newly inaugurated executives that their core assignment was to deepen grassroots mobilization by taking the message of Governor Mbah’s achievements to every ward and community.

He said the EUF was not built on inducements but on a commitment to secure the Governor’s reelection so the state could continue to benefit from the far-reaching reforms already underway.

“So, your work is to go to the hinterlands and preach the good works of the Governor, who has projects in all the wards,” he said.

Nwatu also commended the Nkanu West Chairman for complementing the governor’s agenda with visible local projects in water supply, sanitation, and school infrastructure.

He listed several key projects of the Mbah administration, including the renovation of Hotel Presidential, revival of Niger Gas, upgrading of Holy Ghost Bus Terminal, construction of 260 Green Smart Schools and Type 2 Primary Healthcare Centres, as well as the completion of the International Conference Centre and ongoing construction of the International Hotel.

He also mentioned the Amodu–Akpugo–Akpwfu–Amagunze Road among major ongoing works.

Describing Hon. Ogbodo as a “silent achiever,” Nwatu commended the local government chairman for mirroring the Governor’s development-focused leadership style. He listed the chairman’s achievements, including a modern abattoir at Eke Agbani Market, remodeling of the Ozalla Four Corners Motor Park, multiple boreholes, perimeter fencing of Smart Schools, and the beautification of local roads, as evidence that Nkanu West is fully aligned with Mbah’s vision.

“That’s why we said all our votes should go to Peter Mbah,” Nwatu said.

Speaking for the newly inaugurated ward executives, Hon. Anene Nnamani of Akegbe Ugwu Ward pledged their readiness to “preach the gospel of Peter Mbah,” adding that the Governor’s projects speak for themselves across the state.

Chief Ike Okeke, Coordinator of Nkanu West EUF, described Governor Mbah as a leader whose work is too extensive to narrate fully, and said the local government chairman, being a true grassroots leader, also deserved to be returned for a second term.

Present at the inauguration were the Deputy Coordinator, Enugu East Senatorial Zone, Hon. Robert Arum; Zonal Secretary, Engr. Louis Nnamchi; Zonal Publicity Secretary, Mr. Dennis Agbo; Coordinator, Enugu South LGA, Daniel Eheh; Coordinator, Isi-Uzo LGA, Prof. Ifeanyi Odoziobodo; Coordinator, Enugu East LGA, Chief Dr. Kelvin Sunday Nnamani, among others. Barr. Chidi Ani, Chief of Staff to the Local Government Chairman, was also in attendance.
