NFF Demands N1 Billion for World Cup Playoffs, Receives Funds for Last Matches but Still Owes Eagles

Revelation has emerged that the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) is demanding a whopping N1billion from the federal Government to prosecute the Super Eagles’ 2026 World Cup Playoffs campaign in Morocco.

In a letter to the National Sports Commission (NSC) the Federation made the formal request last week, even though the NSC had already cleared all expenses for the team’s recent qualifiers against Lesotho and the Benin Republic.

Despite receiving funds for these matches, the Super Eagles claim they are still owed unpaid bonuses and appearance fees dating back several months, covering both the 2025 AFCON qualifiers and the 2026 World Cup qualifiers.

The payment delays triggered a training boycott in Rabat, with the team reportedly issuing an ultimatum to the federation: settle outstanding payments or risk the squad returning to their respective clubs ahead of Thursday’s playoff clash against Gabon.

Super Eagles captain William Troost-Ekong has also denied reports that the players demanded a special bonus for the playoffs, stressing that their request is solely for what is legitimately owed.
