‘Makinde’s Presidential Ambition Fueling Crisis in PDP’

A fresh crisis is brewing within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) as the party’s Deputy National Youth Leader, Timothy Osadolor, has accused Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, of fueling division in the party because of his alleged presidential ambition for 2027.

Osadolor, who is a member of the Wike-led group in the PDP, claimed that Makinde’s political ambition is standing in the way of peace and reconciliation within the party. He warned that holding any national convention without first resolving the internal disputes would only worsen the situation.

He said, “How can they even be talking about a presidential candidate from the South West when the one we want to kick out is from the South West? Governor Makinde should help this party by folding his presidential ambition in his pocket and join other leaders to rebuild the PDP.”

Osadolor dismissed reports about plans to hold a PDP national convention in Ibadan, saying the event would not be legitimate. “Whatever they are going to do in Ibadan would be an early Christmas party organised by Governor Makinde and his friends in the PDP. It is certainly not a PDP national convention,” he said.

The youth leader also reminded the party of the recent court judgment by Justice James Omotosho, which directed the PDP to resolve its internal issues and operate in line with its constitution. He said any move to hold a convention without reconciliation would go against that ruling.

“Anybody who wants to talk about convention now must first talk about reconciliation in line with the judgment of Justice James Omotosho, which asked us to put our house in order,” Osadolor stated.

“That ruling not only exposed our failings as a party but also directed us to go back to our books and rules. If you cannot follow your own rules, how can you convince the voting public that you will abide by the Constitution of the country?”

He accused PDP governors of arrogance for pushing ahead with the idea of a convention in Ibadan without addressing the ongoing crisis, warning that such actions could further divide the party ahead of future elections.
