Trump Threat: Pastor Adeboye attacks Tinubu’s govt for inaction on insecurity, says China, Russia, others won’t defend Nigeria in US invasion

In a passionate appeal to Nigeria’s leadership, the General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), Pastor Enoch Adeboye, has warned that the world’s major powers, including China, Russia, and Britain, will not come to Nigeria’s defence if the United States decides to launch a military attack against the country.

Pastor Adeboye’s comments come in response to a growing international outcry over the continued killings of Christians and other innocent citizens in parts of Nigeria. The warning follows recent remarks reportedly made by U.S. President Donald Trump, who allegedly threatened to “invade Nigeria” if President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration fails to put an end to the ongoing violence and attacks targeting Christian communities across the nation.

According to Trump, the U.S. government could no longer “stand idly by” while Christians are persecuted, emphasising that Nigeria’s government must act decisively against those responsible for religious killings. The statement, which has stirred diplomatic unease in Abuja, has drawn mixed reactions from across the political and religious spectrum.

Reacting to the tension, Pastor Adeboye urged Nigerian leaders to take immediate and decisive action to address the security crisis, warning that the international community would not provide tangible help if the U.S. followed through on its threats.

“We must move fast, move diplomatically, and move wisely,” Adeboye said during the church’s monthly Holy Ghost Service on Friday. “We must take note of the fact that if America were to attack us, China would not come to defend us. Russia will not come to defend us. All the so-called world leaders will talk; they will condemn what America has done in the strongest terms. That’s all they will do.

“Britain is not going to come and help us. No foreign power will come to our aid. This is not the time for joking. It’s not the time for grammar or semantics. People are dying, innocent people are dying.”

The revered cleric also expressed frustration with what he described as government complacency and disconnection from the realities faced by ordinary Nigerians, particularly victims of insurgency and banditry.

“I almost spoke last month when I heard the speech of my in-law, the president,” Adeboye remarked, referring to President Tinubu. “When I heard him say that displaced people have returned to their villages, I almost said the one who wrote that speech for my president does not like him.”

He urged Nigerian authorities to confront and eliminate the sponsors of violence “no matter how influential they may be,” insisting that the nation’s leaders must demonstrate both courage and urgency in protecting its citizens.
